THE LINEN VEST TOP — PDF Sewing Pattern
Two options in one pattern: sleeveless, or with short sleeves.
A fitted linen top that buttons down the front, ties at the back, and finishes in two soft points at the hem with a split between them. It is the kind of piece that works over trousers in July and under a jacket in October.
TWO OPTIONS, ONE PATTERN
Sleeveless — the original. Clean armholes cut close to the shoulder, made for warm days and for layering under things.
Short sleeve — added because so many of you asked for it. A simple straight sleeve finishing just above the elbow: enough to cover the upper arm, short enough to stay a summer top. No cuff, no gathering, nothing fussy.
The two versions are not the same pattern with a sleeve stuck on. The sleeved version has its own armhole, cut lower and wider, so you can lift your arm without the whole top lifting with it. Both sets of pieces are included.
THE DETAILS
Round neckline, no collar and no facing showing from the outside
Button front — six buttons down the centre
Shaped through the bust and waist, skimming the hip
Long self-fabric ties that wrap to the back and knot
Pointed hem with a centre front split
FABRIC
Made for mid-weight linen, which is what gives it the drape and the soft creasing you see here. Linen-cotton blends and washed cotton work too.
